Creating online work areas for team collaboration

WSE allows you to create team spaces that team members can use to share information. For example, you can create a team space where teammates can store documents needed for a specific project. You can grant access to team space to all project members, who can contribute documents, review and edit them, and store them back in the team space. Team spaces can include calendars on which project events can be scheduled to improve project management. Sample templates are provided to accelerate the creation of team spaces for your unique needs.

Communicate more effectively

WSE includes instant messaging to facilitate rapid communication among teammates. Combined with presence awareness, this allows you to see others who are currently online and communicate with them immediately. For instance, if you are reviewing a spreadsheet in the integrated document manager, and the spreadsheet author’s name is highlighted, the author is online. You can click on the name and immediately initiate a chat, where you can discuss the document – avoiding the delays caused by people having to leave each other messages and wait for responses.

Access to business applications

WSE includes an integrated portal that allows you to provide users with a central location where they can find the business applications and content they need. This gives you the flexibility and choice in how you will access your critical business applications, allowing access via a web browser. With Single Sign On, you can log on once and access your collaborative team spaces, document management, instant messaging and presence awareness and access to email, calendars and address books stored in IBM Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange servers (or POP3 or IMAP email), all within a single portal environment.

Integrating Domino and Workplace
Workplace provides a portal front end and integrates with Domino using the iNotes or Domino Web Access mail templates as well as other standard Domino templates. With Domino LDAP set up and configured for Single Sign On, users will only be prompted once when entering the portal and not as they access the different portlets on the system. Domino email, calendaring and contacts are Workplace ready as well as some of the other Domino templates. Custom applications developed in Domino can also be made available (portalized), however some recoding may be required.
