Oracle and Lotus Notes/Domino Data Integration
Oracle is among the most powerful relational SQL databases available and Lotus Notes is the premiere workgroup computing tool facilitating ease of use, rapid application development, and a distributed working environment. Version 4.x of Notes has provided the ability to integrate Notes applications with traditional databases. There are generally three types of data integration companies need today:
1. One time export of data from Oracle to Notes,
2. One time export of data from Notes to Oracle, and
3. A continuous bi-directional data exchange between Oracle and Notes.
The first two types are done with LotusScript (Lotus Notes programming language) to either "dump" data to a delimited file format which can then easily be imported by Oracle, or by reading a data dump from Oracle, importing the data directly into Notes.
The third type, a continuous bi-directional exchange of data between Oracle and Notes, provides the most functionality and addresses the current needs of companies seeking to realize true workflow productivity gains while leveraging current investments in existing technology infrastructure. The continuous exchange of data can be two-way (bi-directional) or one-way. Kolaco has a pre-built LotusScript Library to address different company requirements.
Using ODBC we can access Oracle data directly from the database or read it from files created from exported data. We can create new Notes documents from the data or update existing documents. Multiple data records can be combined in a single Notes document or normalized into separate documents. Information being sent from Notes to Oracle can be sent directly into the Oracle database tables or it can be exported to a file and imported to Oracle on a scheduled basis. All integration can be scheduled or event-driven.
